Founder Completes Master of Optometry with Research on Visual Impairment

Anidaso Eye Centre is proud to celebrate the academic achievement of its Founder, Dr. Bright Vandyke Okyere, who earned a Master of Optometry degree from the University of the Free State, South Africa.

As part of his graduate studies, Dr. Okyere conducted a research project titled “The Prevalence, Causes, and Associated Factors of Visual Impairment in Rural Communities in the Eastern Region of Ghana.” This study provided valuable data and insights on the realities of eye health challenges in rural Ghana, particularly the burden of visual impairment and its underlying causes.

The findings of this research came at a crucial time for Anidaso Eye Centre’s Rural Eye Care Program (RECaP) and Save a Sight Program (SaSP). By identifying the major factors driving visual impairment in rural communities, the study has enabled the team at Anidaso to refine its strategies, focusing on targeted interventions that address the specific needs of underserved populations. According to Dr. Okyere,
“Understanding the root causes of visual impairment in rural Ghana was critical. This research has not only added to the academic body of knowledge but also served as a practical guide for shaping how Anidaso Eye Centre delivers eye care where it is needed most.”
This achievement reinforces Anidaso Eye Centre’s commitment to evidence-based practice, ensuring that every initiative—from community screenings to outreach programs—is informed by data and designed to deliver impact-driven results.
